Skeeter Bytes
  1. This riddle is comprised of levels. You will start, naturally, at 1. When you are finished with all the levels currently available, you will reach a "temp end" page congratulating you. (Check back periodically, though. New levels may be released at any time.)
  2. To advance between levels, you will have to discover the URL (address) of the next level. You do this by interpreting the hints in each level and applying them. The solution to each level will typically be a word or short phrase (in English).
  3. Once you have the solution to a level, put it in the level's URL, appended with ".html" to replace the current level. For example, if the URL of a particular level is http://skeeterbytes.50webs.com/skiddle/cat.html and led to the solution beachball, you would change the address to read http://skeeterbytes.50webs.com/skiddle/beachball.html. If the solution to a level consists of more than one word, concatenate them with no spaces in between. For example, if a solution were "how are you," it would be entered as "howareyou.html" in the address bar. All solutions will be in lower-case.
  4. Two websites that will be particularly useful in solving these riddles, if you don't already have them bookmarked, are Google Search and Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia. If terms within a page stand out or strike you as unfamiliar or odd, searching these two sites (at a bare minimum) is usually a good move.
  5. I have tried to create the riddles so that they require no particular knowledge of American (or any other country's) pop culture or politics, advanced mathematics (beyond arithmetic and conversion between bases, such as decimal/binary/hexadecimal), or other specialized hard-to-acquire knowledge. But that doesn't mean that a little research won't be occasionally required.
  6. At times, you will be required to read the source code of the riddles' pages. This is done in Internet Explorer by right-clicking on the page and selecting "View Source" in the pop-up menu. In Firefox, right-click on the page and select "View Page Source" from the menu. HTML comments will often provide clues (or misdirection); these are found within comment tags (<!-- and -->). If you want, try this now. You should see a source code comment immediately after this item.
  7. At the moment, there is no forum dedicated to hints and messages for this riddle. There should be one at the WeffRiddles forum under WR-Inspired Riddles. Please, however, try to work it out for yourself instead of asking for help at the first obstacle. It'll be much more satisfying.
  8. This shouldn't even need to be said, but: PLEASE don't spoil it for others. Giving people subtle hints is fine, but don't hand out the answers.
  9. If you have experience with other riddle sites, you probably know several of the tricks of the trade. None of these levels will require image manipulation (including searching EXIF data). However, it is a very good idea to keep a document of some sort, either electronic or paper. Keep track of each level's solution at the bare minimum; but taking notes on how you arrived at each solution can be handy as well.
  10. Hopefully you don't have to be told this either, but... have fun!
